Oshkosh, March 3, 2017 – I know this is a long, overdue, update for Seymour Raceway Park, and I will go over some of the issues.

First off, there WILL be racing at SRP in 2017. 

The season will start on Sunday night, May 7.    Racing will start at 6 PM.

There will be a practice the week before, Sunday April 30,  with a tentative time from 5 – 8.


Since the shortened 2016 season ended, there has been a great deal of effort put into straightening out the many issues that were a result.   

With 17 races scheduled in 2016,  there were 6 run, and only 2 of those were clear nights.  7 rainouts and the last 4 were cancelled.   The racing we were able to get in was great,  but weather prevented us from getting into any kind of routine. 

The support of the drivers, crews, fans and workers was fantastic.

Cancelling the final races was a very difficult decision to make, and the financial issues as a result were substantial.      First and foremost was to get the drivers and employees paid.   Their understanding and patience was so very much appreciated.  And I could not THANK them enough for that.  

There were also many others that were still owed for their services and all of this has been a very emotional and stressful project to work through.     I have kept in contact and assured that I had every intention to get everything cleared up.   Most have been very understanding and a few were not, and I do not blame anyone and tried to keep everyone satisfied.   I truly THANK those that have been patiently waiting.    I am relieved and glad that this will all be finalized very shortly.    There were still issues from the club that continue to lingure that added to the mess as well.  That process still has several things to clear up.


This all caused me to retreat while trying to negotiate through all of this, and also trying to figure out my future involvement with the track.   A fact I am not pleased with, but it was the easiest way to cope with it.


All of this was, to say the least, physically draining, and I knew this was finally almost completed.    The outlook changed, a lot, following having a stroke on February 6.   Fortunately, it was a mild stroke, not side effects of any kind.  But a five day stint in the hospital can really help prioritize things for you.   I have been involved with racing for aver 50 years and it has been a big part of my families life as well.   


I need to concentrate on my wonderful family more.   They have been very supportive in all of this, but, I am not giving up on the racing just yet.  The sport and everyone involved over the years has been like a second family.


Since then, meeting with the very special people that helped me at the track last year, Tom, Bobby, Jon and Bonnie, their continued support is needed, and I am happy to say, willing to continue.

Also, meeting with Tim and Carl with the fair association last week, their support and willingness to work with us to build the racing program back up at SRP is crucial.

So, now the journey continues. 

I am finalizing getting all the last financial issues settled.

Also,  working on getting the 2017 season ready to go.


We will be running the Street Stocks, IMCA Sport Mods,  IMCA Stock cars and will also bring back the IMCA Modifieds to the weekly Sunday night programs this season.

We are planning to concentrate on just running a solid, regular racing program every week, and have no specials set at this time. 


There is a meeting set for Monday, March 27 at Doxbee’s to start at 7 PM.

All details will be presented at this meeting.    

We will also present the awards to the drivers in the top 10 in each division from last year.

Seymour, August 11 – To say that the 2016 season at Seymour Raceway Park has been a difficult one, would be an understatement.


Following the program this past Sunday, there was a great deal of discussion on the rest of the season.     Following a very busy week and a meeting with the fair association on Thursday, a difficult decision was made to cancel the remaining four races this season, starting with this Sunday, August 14.


The financial responsibilities of running a weekly racing program are hefty.  From insurance to staff, maintenance- facility and equipment, and drivers payoff, force every track to be very aware of all situations surrounding their operations.

I  had also taken on all of the past issues of the club, some of which are still not settled, which also added to the pressures of re-opening the track.


The weather has been a problem from the start, losing the opener and allowing only 6 races to be run this season, forcing 7 to be canceled.   There was no consistency to build a routine for Sunday nights.


This decision was defiantly NOT an easy one to make, but was a mutual decision between myself and the Fair Association.      

I can now concentrate on settling the past issues and focus on moving forward.   

One is to open the track for 2017, which the Fair Association strongly supports.

I tried to personally contact as many as I could after the meeting Thursday to make the announcement before an official posting was made.  I apologize to any I may have missed.


I wish to THANK all of those people that supported Seymour Raceway Park this season.

The Fair Association for their support to take over the facility and willingness to help re-build the racing program here.

The drivers and crews for their loyalty.   I know those that are chasing points are disappointed, and I appreciate the understanding of those I spoke to, as to why this had to happen,   and encouragement to move ahead to next season.

Sponsors, for their continued backing of the weekly program at Seymour.

The fantastic staff,  that worked so hard to make the programs the best in the area.  Those that do not get paid enough and those that chose to donate not only their time, but equipment and services as well.


I need to acknowledge the people that made the decision to come back to the track and work with me.

The drivers payoff and staff wages, from this last race, will be done and sent out, or delivered, next week.   Any other issues will be settled shortly.


Once again, I truly regret having to make this decision.

Now the work begins, to re-asses everything at the track and plan for the future.
