Wagner Captures Fifth IMCA Stock Car Main, Rookie Birr Sweeps IMCA Northern Sportmod Class
Seymour’s Shawn "Lunchbox" Wagner captured his fifth 20 lap IMCA stock car feature of the year at Seymour Speedway Sunday.
The defending track champion also won his heat, sweeping the class for the night.
Rookie Kevin Birr of Krakow swept action in the IMCA northern sportmods in a caution free contest. The win was the first for the former 4 Cylinder champion.
Luxemburg’s Benji LaCrosse passed hometown driver Mike Mullen with two laps to go to win the 20 lap IMCA modified feature. It was LaCrosse’s second win of the weekend, as he won at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night.
A total of 131 cars showed up to race, including 26 IMCA modifieds, 31 stock cars, 22 northern sportmods, 28 street stocks and 23 4 bangers.
Wagner came out swinging, fending off Shiocton’s Barry Van Straten, Gillett’s Kyle Frederick and Pulaski’s Rod Snellenberger in the final 10 laps to win the IMCA stock car feature. You could have thrown a blanket under the top three as they crossed the finish line, with Van Straten and Frederick taking second and third, respectively. Snellenberger nabbed fourth after having to fight his way into the feature by placing second in a semi feature. Green Bay’s Andy Kornowski rounded out the top five finishers.
Birr fought off a fast closing Travis Van Straten of Hortonville for the win. Hometown driver Rod Solem took third, followed by Bonduel’s Greg Wichman and Green Bay’s Josh Long.
Seymour’s Aaron Melchert fought off defending track champion Todd Everard of Green Bay in the waning laps to collect the 20 lap street stock main. Everard, Kaukauna’s Matt Drawenek, Tigerton’s Gary Kasparek, and Appleton’s Phil Hiles rounded out the top five.
Ralph Legois Jr. of Oconto Falls swept action in the sport four class.
Next Sunday, June 27 Wisconsin Lock and Load Transport will sponsor the program, which begins at 6 p.m.
