Seymour Speedway has a quick turn around with the debut of the Badger Stock Car Tour. The class they call “Too Tough To Tame” will take hold of the high banked 1/3 mile clay oval this Wednesday July 17. A large field of cars is expected for the first of the 3 straight nights of the series. The Sport Mods will be in action as well with racing starting at 7pm. The tour then heads to Thunderhill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay on Thursday and Oshkosh Speedzone on Friday. The Stock Car driver with the best point total of all 3 nights earns an extra $1000 with the Sports Mods having a $300 bonus for the same feat.
Last weeks winner Chad Bartel blasted around heat race winner Mark Van Kauwenberg for the lead on the opening lap of the IMCA Modified feature. Opening night winner Charlie Wild gave chase working to the inside for the lead. The pair raced respectfully and on lap 8 Wild took hold of the top spot. Jay Matthias and Jason Czarapata began their march through the field racing into the top five at the midway point of the contest. A caution on lap 12 slowed the field. Gracy wove the green flag and the main was back underway with Matthias working the low groove under Wild. A lap later Matthias took the top spot and never looked back picking up his second feature win of the season. Czarapata padded his point lead with a second place finish, Wild had to settle for third, Bartel held on for fourth and Troy Jerovetz completed the top five.
Justin Jacobson jumped from his front row starting spot in the IMCA Stock Car headliner. Devin Snellenberger quickly gave chase and slipped past Jacobson for the top spot on lap 6. His reign up front didn’t last long as Brandon Czarapata capture the lead from Snellenberger on lap 8. Snellenberger later clipped an infield tire and faded from the top five. Title contender JJ Heinz gave chase working into the runner up position. A caution late in the going set up a 3 lap dash to the checker. On the restart Czarapata sped away from the field and never looked back picking up his fifth feature win of the season. Jeremy Wiitala had his best run of the season with second, Heinz took third which helped him close the points gap for the title, Barry Van Straten brought home a solid fourth and point leader Rod Snellenberger was fifth.
“Shibby” Tyler Wilson looked to shake off a season of bad luck as he paced the field in the IMCA Sport Mod main. A caution on lap 11 put point leader Tracy Wassenberg on his back spoiler. On the restart Wassenberg worked by Wilson and to the lead. Wassenberg withstood a late race caution earning his third feature win of the season padding his already large point lead. Aaron Muhle made a late race charge to second, Jeremy Cota claimed third, Rod Solem scored fourth and “Shibby” had his best run of the year with fifth.
Jerry Winkler passed Aaron Melchert on lap 4 and went on to win his sixth feature of the season in the Street Stocks. Point leader Jon Ashcraft had a rough night which ended with a checkup from an EMT after taking a hard hit after spinning late in the contest. Lexii Ashcraft who sits second in the standings couldn’t capitalize on her dad’s bad night as she suffered a flat tire that ended her night. Third place points racer Mert Summers was caught up in the Jon Ashcraft wreck and didn’t finish either. Trailing Winkler at the checkers was Shawn Hayden who took second in his first visit, Allan Schlueter had another podium finish with third, Derek Lecker finally had a good night with fourth and Aaron Melchert rounded out the top five.
The Sport Four feature was great race between Andrew Meyerhofer and Josh Roehl. The duo raced side by side lap after lap just inches apart and never touched. Roehl worked the outside groove of the leader lap after lap but always was a bumper short at the start/finish line. With only 2 laps remaining Roehl got the upper hand passing Meyerhofer for the lead and took home his first win of the season. Meyerhofer had to settle for second and Brad Prahl was third.
