Brian Mullen Wins, Wagner Wins Three In A Row
Hometown driver Brian Mullen passed Luxemburg’s Benji LaCrosse for the lead with seven laps remaining to win the 20 lap IMCA modified feature at Seymour Speedway Sunday night.
Defending track champion Shawn Wagner of Seymour passed Pulaski’s Rod Snellenberger for the lead on the final lap to win his third straight, 20 lap IMCA stock car feature. With his heat win Wagner also scored a sweep for the night.
A season high 150 cars were on hand, including 26 IMCA modifieds, 38 IMCA stock cars, 30 IMCA northern sportmods, 27 street stocks and 29 4 bangers.
In the IMCA modified main, Four different drivers exchanged the top spot throughout the contest, including Danny Deau, Shawn Kilgore and LaCrosse. When Mullen took the lead on lap 14 defending champion LaCrosse was right in Mullen’s tire tracks, but settled for second at the pay window. Jason Czarpata, Shawn Kilgore and Mike Mullen rounded out the top five finishers.
In the IMCA stock car feature, Snellenberger executed a three wide pass on lap five to gain the lead. Wagner kept Snellenberger in his sights, catching the former national champion with four laps to go. Wagner scooted past Snellenberger as starter Art Siefert displayed the white flag. Snellenberger wound up second followed by Jeremy Christians, Snellenberger’s son Devin Snellenberger and Appleton’s Chas Van Ooyen.
Black Creek’s Jason Guyette inherited the lead after a lap seven restart and cruised to victory in the 20 lap IMCA northern sportmod feature.
Hortonville’s Travis Van Straten shot into the early lead from his pole position at the drop of the green in the 20 lap IMCA northern sportmod feature. A caution flew on lap seven, and on the restart a 10 car pileup on the fronstretch took place. Van Straten was deemed the cause of the caution, and was put to the back.
On the restart Guyette sped away and went on to capture his first feature flag of the season. Rookie Scott Boulanger of Luxemburg posted his best performance of the year in second, followed by Oconto’s Rob Charapada, Rod Solem of Seymour and Green Bay’s Troy Jerovetz.
Clintonville’ Tony Schwamer won the caution filled 15 lap street stock feature. The race was trimmed by five laps to due a time limit, after seven yellow flags flew. Trailing Schwamer at the checkers were Mert Summers, Phil Hiles, Dan Gracyalny and Todd Everard.
Chilton’s Jesse Cullen swept action in the 4 banger class, winning both his heat and 15 lap feature.
The second race of the night, an IMCA northern sportmod heat was red flagged when RJ Legois barrel rolled his racer on the frontstretch. He escaped unhurt but his car was destroyed.
Next Sunday night’s races are sponsored by Scott Marx Trucking of Nichols and Victory Signs of Suamico. Late models will make their first of three Summer Holiday Classic, in addition to the tracks weekly divisions. Racing gets underway at 6 p.m. The track phone is 920 833 7726.
