by Edward Anschutz

(Seymour, WI) July 17- Oconto’s Scott Stewart snuck past Green Bay’s John Heinz and Oconto Falls’ Kyle Frederick on the final lap to win round I of the Iron Horse Sales & Service Ironman swing for the Badger Stock Tour presented by Kick Ass Drive Train & Iron Horse Recycling at Seymour Speedway.

A total of 40 BST stock cars representing three states checked in to compete at Seymour.

Pulaski’s Devin Snellenberger paced the opening laps of the inaugural Badger Stock Car main event before “The High Side Hustler” Kyle Frederick grabbed the top spot. Green Bay’s Heinz gave chase racing to second place. At the half way point Stewart worked into third. Oconto’s Dustin Loberger who had to transfer through a last chance qualifier worked to the top five but contact with Devin sending Loberger in a spin and to the back of the field under caution.

On the restart Heinz raced past Fredrick for the lead, his reign up front didn’t last long as Fredrick came roaring back with just 5 laps to go. Former national champion “Hot” Rod Snellenberger of Pulaski made it a 3 wide battle for the lead which resulted in the trio making contact on the front stretch ending Rod sliding to the infield ending his bid for the win. This set up a 4 lap dash to the checker which saw Frederick, Heinz and Stewart race 3-wide for the lead. With the white flag coming down Stewart grabbed the lead for the first time and narrowly held off Fredrick to a roaring crowd. The win netted Stewart a $700 pay. Frederick had to settle for second at the pay window, Heinz held on for a close third, fourth for Green Bay’s Jeremy Wiitala and Devin Snellenberger rallied back for fifth.

Jeremy Cota of Oconto led every lap en route to winning the IMCA northern sportmod feature.

Round II of the Ironman Swing will take place at Thunder Hill Raceway Thursday, July 18. Joining the BST will be IMCA northern sportmods, street stocks and four cylinders. Racing gets underway at 7 p.m. both nights.
